THE SCHOOL OF ARTS

The project School of Arts is based on reflection. A city built up in bricks. The new volume integrates itself in the city showing a massive skin which meets tradition and connects with the material spiritually of the town. Afterwards, the building develops a new rational and light metalic structure hanging from concrete walls, creating an indoor cloister. The building confronts the typology of patio or cloister, typically related to education in Spain in the 16th century onwards. Alcala de Henares presents a unique baroque setting, where the city is delimited by the spirit of an aesthetic and constructions that organize the functioning of the town, the character of its visual heritage and belonging to a medium scale. The building itself assumes the purposes of a school of fine arts with the intention of closing itself off from a misreading through the large brick façade. The hybrid structure of concrete and steel unfolds inside towards a mix of load-bearing walls and spatial systems that enable open and multifunction spaces, with great capacity for change and organization according to themes, classrooms and purposes.
